Safety, Health and Environmental Supervisor-Dubuque, IA
- Prioritizes and coordinates work activities between Enterprise Safety and business unit leaders to identify safety initiatives and action plans to improve safety performance. Serves in an advisory capacity to business unit management in regard to safety and issues in supervised area (environmental health, health services, or workers comp). In large sites, this role may perform these responsibilities under direction of a Site Safety & Health Manager.
- Supervise staff in related functional area that may include Environmental, Health Services, or Workers Comp (specific area supervised may vary by site). Ensures site-specific compliance activities are being met in partnership with Enterprise-level functional leadership and support staff (e.g., Corporate Disability Management, Enterprise Safety and Environmental), Set schedules, assign work, and monitor performance. Ensure that direct reports have the knowledge, skills, and resources necessary to perform their jobs. Responsible for performance management and development of assigned team.
- Develop, lead and manage safety projects based on identified business annual objectives and prioritized safety needs, i.e. ergonomics, safety management system, safety coaching program. Aligns Enterprise strategies with business unit objectives to effectively develop and deliver site-specific safety programs.
- Conducts safety evaluations (e.g. audits, inspections, accident investigations, etc.) with site management and assists in the execution of corrective actions. Trains supervisors and support staff accordingly to support program needs.
- Works with site leadership and manufacturing engineering to conduct safety assessments of new or modified equipment/processes in accordance with Andersen’s Safety Assessment Procedure. Participates in problem solving/resolution exercises. Seeks direction from Enterprise Safety in standards interpretations and challenging situations.May support site OSHA inspections and assist in maintaining accuracy records per established guidelines.
- Analyzes safety performance indicators to identify trends and loss activities and assists in prioritizing appropriate countermeasures. Develops and initiates projects in partnership with Enterprise Safety based on identified business unit needs in order to implement processes/procedures/best practices that reduce safety and environmental risks to associates.
- Oversee and/or conduct site specific safety training programs (e.g. incident investigation, lockout/tagout, powered industrial trucks, ergonomics, safety inspections, Job Safety Analysis, audiometric testing, etc.)as necessary and/or as directed by Enterprise Safety. This includes new associate orientations aimed at reducing exposure to workplace hazards and compliance with applicable standards.
- Leads efforts to build and sustain a behavior-based safety culture.
- Leads and supervises site safety staff fostering a servant leadership approach. Supervise staff in related function such as Environmental, Health Svc, or Workers Comp.
- Leads cross-functional project teams and may coordinate/lead site committees.
- Minimum of Bachelor’s degree (Master’s degree preferred) in Safety Engineering or related discipline or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum of 5+ years of experience in the safety field , preferably in manufacturing
- Technical knowledge/experience of OSHA, NFPA, NEC, ANSI code regulations and compliance
- Minimum of 3+ years of formal leadership experience managing direct reports
- Proven track record of successfully delivering outstanding results
- Experience leading behavior based safety programs
- Ability to develop a strong team through ongoing coaching and development
